The urgency of a turnaround

For three decades, pea cultivation has been on a downward trajectory, hampered by irregular yields and heavy pressure from pests and climate. It is urgent to break this cycle to meet the growing demand for plant-based proteins.

Pea4Ever: the genetic lever at the service of the sector

Led by GIE PeaBoost, Pea4Ever is an R&D programme running from 2024 to 2029 with a target budget of €50 million. It aims to remove the main agronomic barriers through varietal innovation.

Accelerate genetic progress

Massive use of genomic selection and high-throughput phenotyping, and sharing of the best lines as parental material among members.

Secure yields

Create varieties resistant to major stresses: Aphanomyces, viruses, aerial diseases and climatic hazards.

Enhance industrial quality

Adapt winter peas to the requirements of high value-added markets (protein ingredients).
